About Erica Zubris

Erica Zubris is an indigenous artist of Kānaka Maoli and Tangata Whenua descent as well as the shamanic people of Korea. Her love of genealogy and ancient arts spanning the globe gives her a unique context for European influence to combine with indigenous art forms. Her education in marine ecology and experience as an environmental science teacher contribute to her love of mimicking biology with fiber.

As a humble perpetual student of the Universe and lifelong teacher, she has never stopped seeking new experiences and curiosities. Erica seeks to incorporate her unique knowledges and expertise throughout her art. These contexts include being partially disabled by Ehlers Danlos and its associated comorbidities, and living as an autistic and ADHD person. Her neurodivergent perspective and vast neural net are most evident in her varied artworks from fibers to ceramic to lost wax casting.

Do you recognize this hand from Youtube? Erica has lots of great videos there with tutorials, tips and wild experiments. Some people recognize her first by her Kānaka Maoli women’s hand tattoo. It was worked by an old Master of Oceanian tattooing, Tricia Allen.
